POEM
Time passes like sand through an hourglass
With each ticking of the clock in my head
A second at a time, tick...tick...tick...
Until it reaches sixty and begins all over again,
The backward timepiece.
IT was not long ago I played in the school yard
Without a care, loving the hours
With memories that ne'er will fade,
To the years of school, and more school
To the decades that rolled around
Enjoying wondrous life and the rites of passage.
Now January has turned into May,
and away from the concrete jungle,
It seems the glass appears half empty
and all attempts to fill the upper half seem futile,
As the rising sun and setting become melded as one
Wanting to capture those fleeting moments, hours, and days
and hold them in my cup half full,
To cherish that precious lasting of fleeting time
As the ticking passes from me all too quickly.
Time passes to all differently but in reality moves the same, ever flowing, ever steady stream.
Some days pass like years, some weeks pass by in a blur and seem to be no time at all.
When you can step outside yourself, you feel time in a different manner.
You can feel its ever constant flow so you know that it is continuing on its non-altered course but you also have the other sensation of a single moment standing still, last an eternity in just a few seconds.
It’s the only way to explain how so much can be felt at once, as time stops in one way but continues uninterrupted in another. The dual interpretation all at once makes sense and yet is incomprehensible.
Time – such a simple concept wrapped and enveloped in all the complications of energy, worlds and spirits.
I touched time in this moment and while this one act should be pivotal, it’s true to itself and it passes all too quickly.
